Superintendent
Ray Christian began his career in education in his home state of Pennsylvania followed by three years in Milford and Georgetown. In 1961 he moved to New Castle County and served as Assistant Principal at George Read Middle School for four years.He then moved into administration as Administrative Assistant and then Director of Business.In 1973, he became Superintendent of Schools for the New Castle Special School District which later became New Castle- Gunning Bedford School District. He then became Superintendent of Area IV which also included the DeLaWarr District. In 1981, the existing districts in Northern New Castle County were formed and he became Superintendent of the Colonial School District where he remained until his retirement in June 1990. Ray served on many boards state-wide and always supported the children and programs of the district.In addition, he was very supportive of the academic and athletic programs in Colonial.His work ethic was evident in that he never took a sick day in 37 years of education!
