
Jack Holloway
Educator & Coach
Jack Holloway started teaching in Colonial in 1968 at the former New Castle Jr. High School. He later taught at Gunning Bedford Middle School from 1970 -71 where he coached for three seasons before moving to William Penn High School (WPHS) as an assistant football, wrestling and baseball coach.
Holloway became the head wrestling coach in 1976-77. During his 25 year tenure WPHS won seven state championships, 18 Blue Hen Conference championships and two Independent Conference championships; the record was 297 wins and 35 losses. During Holloway’s tenure many of his teams and athletes set records. There were 13 undefeated seasons, six nationally ranked teams were recognized by Amateur Wrestling News, 106 individual conference champions,39 individual state champions, one 4-time state champion, two three-time state champions, sixState Tournament Outstanding Wrestlers, five High School All-Americans, four NCAA Division one Tournament Qualifiers, one two-time NCAA All-Americanand two Olympic Alternates.
Since retiring from Colonial Holloway has returned many times to watch football games and wrestling matches at WPHS and has spoken to both the football & wrestling teams on several occasions like team banquets. He still maintains close ties with his former colleagues, many of whom are former students and athletes.
