Harry Kutch

Harry Kutch taughtMathematics at William Penn High School (WPHS) from 1961 to 1998. At WPHS Kutch took the lead and served in many capacities, among them:

• Taught all levels of secondary mathematics


Introduced Computer Math curriculum and started a Computer Lab


Initiatedan AP Calculus program


Introduced Discrete Mathematics and Linear Algebra courses

• Served as Mathematics Department Chairperson

• Coached Math League Teams

• Coached DE State Math League Teams

• Served on Colonial Computer Advisory and State Mathematics Advisory Committees

• Served as a Middle States Evaluator – Mathematics

• Served terms as President, Treasurer, and Trustee of DCTM (Delaware Council of Teachers of Mathematics)

Kutch also won several awards and was recognized as an outstanding teacher. His accolades include:

• 1998 Delaware Teacher of the Year

• 1998 Colonial School District Teacher of the Year

• 1998 William Penn High School Teacher of the Year


Samuel Greitzer Distinguished Coach Award – American Regional Mathematics League (ARML) 1993


Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics – 1994


Cuthbert Webber Award – University of Delaware for contributions to Mathematics education in Delaware (inaugural) 1982

Kutch continued his stellar teaching career at the University of Delaware where he was named Supervisor of Student Teachers in Secondary Mathematics, and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Mathematics.

Kutch has remained active in the Colonial School District, serving on various committees and continues to assist students.
