
Bruce Reynolds

Bruce Reynolds began his career in the Colonial School District in 1971 after graduating from Duke University.He taught social studies for 31 years at William Penn High School (WPHS) where he also worked as an Assistant Athletic Director for 17 years. Among other things, Reynolds created the Weight Room and Lifting Program in 1974, was the Freshmen Head Football Coach and Varsity Scout for 3 years, and Head Football Coach for 27 years. During that tenure, Reynolds was a two-time Delaware Coach of the Year and the first coach in Delaware history to reach 200 wins. As a coach, Reynolds left the district with 218 wins, the most wins in Delaware history at the time of his retirement, won 7 State Division 1 Championships, 9 Conference Championships, and was named National Football League and the Philadelphia Eagles High School Coach of the Week in 1999. Reynolds was inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame in 2003.
Reynolds, who graduated from WPHS in 1966, was a stand-out student and athlete both in high school and college. Aside from his stellar career at WPHS Reynolds also worked as a Community Relations Coordinator for the school district prior to his retirement.In addition to his career in education, Reynolds served as a State Representative for the 15th District for 18 years, and he chaired numerous committees and was named the Delaware State Education Association’s Legislator of the Year in 1998.
