Barbara Foxx
Educator
During the 1977-1978 school year, Mrs. Foxx began her journey as an English teacher for the Colonial School District at William Penn High School. A school, which she found to be caring, collaborative, warm, and welcoming. Upon arrival, Barbara’s colleagues went through their file cabinets and then gave her everything necessary for adjustment to her new teaching position. This type of generosity was a normal occurrence during her tenure as a teacher at William Penn. As Mrs. Foxx’s classes ranged from Practical to Honors, she had an opportunity to interact with many students on different levels. Working with the Honor Society selection Committee, she was able to select students whose ultimate qualities would insure success.
Barbara’s time at William Penn High School was supernaturally unique. Every in-service day she wore one of her shirts which read on the front “If my people shall humble themselves and pray” II Chronicles 7:14 and read on the back “Prayer Changes Things.” This shirt she wore to encourage her colleagues to pray and to have faith in God. Perhaps wearing her shirt was the act that caused her classroom to become a sanctuary for fellow male and female teachers; for troubled students and custodians or for anyone who wanted to pray. To God be the Glory, they, who came, were blessed. As a result of praying for many newlywed teachers who wanted to have children, several parents were blessed and Mrs. Foxx became the Godmother of many beautiful baby boys and girls whose pictures filled her empty chalk boards and still fill the walls of her home today. For over thirty-four years, her experience in the Colonial School District was both educational and spiritual, and to God belongs all the credit because He was responsible for whatever was accomplished. With His leading, Mrs. Foxx taught for forty-one years and eleven months with supportive administrators and guidance counselors; with fantastic teachers; to understanding students; for wonderful parents; and with caring custodians. On June 8, 2011, she retired. However, she continues to pray for and support the Colonial School District. May everyone involved be blessed spiritually and naturally in Jesus Name!
